Betsy Huffsmith paints from the level of her heart. Fluidity and a natural bliss are the hallmarks of her work. Wise Turtle Acupuncture is honored to display Betsy’s painting for the January 12, 2018 Downtown Springfield Second Friday Art Walk. Betsy’s life is intertwined with art and has been for most of her life. She called the midwest home for 25 years. She owned and operated the Skyline Gallery for 6 years. Many homes across the country are graced with her paintings. For 15 years she has sold greeting cards with her images printed on them. Eugene has been home to Betsy for the last ten years. She is fascinated by all that nature provides and is drawn to colors, textures and patterns found in the land, water and forests. Regional places you may recognize, such as Odell Lake, are included in her work. She begins by applying medium (thick paste) with a palette knife to create texture and pattern. She also squeezes thick glue onto the canvass to form a bead that looks like trees, roots, and veins in flower petals. Cards, prints and original pieces are available at New Zone Art Gallery, 220 W. 8th St, Eugene, OR. Her cards are sold at Capella Market, Friendly Street Market, Sundance Natural Foods and New Frontier Market. Come enjoy healthy snacks and wine at the Art Walk up on the second floor of the Emerald Art Center at Wise Turtle Acupuncture and In Motion Pilates. The Art Walk runs from 5-8pm. It is possible that there may be some live therapeutic harp music. Art, healing music, healthy treats: come on up!
Wise Turtle Acupuncture is feeling blessed to present the whimsical animal works of local artist Johnmichael T Lahtinen for the September 8, 2017 Downtown Springfield Second Friday Art Walk. The event runs from 5pm to 8pm and the current Eugene Slug Queen is guiding the Art Walk. Wise Turtle Acupuncture is the number two stop on the adventure. Come enjoy light, healthy refreshments and wine while meeting our delightful artist. Karen DeBraal, the acupuncturist, and Cindy Bloom, the new massage therapist of Talking Rhythms Massage, across the hall, are happy to meet you and discuss their healing modalities. Johnmichael lives in Springfield and finds the Eugene/Springfield area a nurturing environment for the arts. He is currently focusing on semi-chromatic imagery to better practice realistic impressions of his subjects. Furthermore, he finds this a fun process which helps him better understand light and the way it creates three dimensional-ism. Karen DeBraal, Lac of Wise Turtle Acupuncture truly appreciates the work of Johnmichael. One of his Bohemian Waxwing portraits graces the living room of her home. His art is accessible and popular. Come and get some for your walls! It is easy to find several you like! Wise Turtle Acupuncture certainly enjoys having the work adorning the clinic for a month. During acupuncture one can gaze at charming and colorful images of wildlife. In addition, they provide a soothing and happy atmosphere for your healing. Johnmichael is a member of the New Zone Gallery . You can also view more of his work on their website or on his: www.jilatartistry.wix.com/Johnmichael. Finally, Wise Turtle Acupuncture and Talking Rhythms Massage are located on the top floor of the Emerald Art Center.
“Flowers and Faces” by Margie Templeton joyously adorns the clinic walls of Wise Turtle Acupuncture. Flower watercolors and oil faces are lighting up the room for the June 9, 2017, Downtown Springfield Second Friday Art Walk. Serenity emanates from Margie’s work, which creates a soothing match for an acupuncture or sound healing session. The Artist Margie came to painting later in life, which is hard to believe. Her faces have depth and intrigue, her flowers are brilliant and captivating. I find myself looking forward to going to work because I will get to be around these pieces for the day. As a psychologist of 35 years, Margie has captured the emotions that play across her portraits. They are set up in the room to move into various flower pieces. She paints flowers while here in Oregon and oils when she travels to Bali and India, due to weather issues and how they affect the paint. She is a member of the New Zone Art Gallery Collective. Wise Turtle Acupuncture is grateful to New Zone for sending yet another fabulous artist this way. See you at Wise Turtle Acupuncture! Wise Turtle Acupuncture highly recommends you stop in. Come experience this treat of art, enjoy a snack and find out if you would like acupuncture or sound healing! The show runs from 5-8pm. Margie will be there to discuss and share her art with you. By the way, her work is affordably priced!

Her art originally served as a way of expression and communication but has grown to become a result of meditation. Karen will be happy to activate her singing bowls, gongs and Acutonics tuning forks. Just ask! Come and experience a sample of sound healing! Wise Turtle Acupuncture is deeply honored to show the visionary nature art of Asante Riverwind for the Downtown Springfield Second Friday Art Walk, this Friday, February 12, 2016, from 5-8 pm. Come to the Emerald Art Center and head upstairs to Suite C1 to see turtles, bears, pumas, wolves, dolphins, and Oregon canyons that are gracing the walls of Karen DeBraal’s acupuncture clinic. Asante is a lifelong creator of art. He blends many art traditions and cultures into his inspiring work. Celtic and original designs are fused with nature, dreams, visions and spirit. Asante began creating art as soon as he could hold a pencil and he has studied formally at five universities over the course of ten years. His body of work is astounding and includes books of art and poetry about ravens, dragons and wolves. A decades long social and ecological activist, Asante brings forth his care for the the earth and its creatures in his art. I am unable to look at his pieces and remain unmoved. When the piece “Seri Sea Dolphin” was brought into my clinic, I was riveted. As a child, I had visited this very place by Tiburon Island on the Mexican side of the Gulf of California. It was an unforgettable Christmas week of wild childhood camping in the 1960s. We saw only Seri Indians and sea life. My parents traded tools for carvings from the Seri. My little brother and I played with the Seri kids our age during the trading, none of us needing a common language other than the fun of rolling a hoop with a stick. Our days were spent flying down sand dunes as fast as we could execute a running jump and tumble, watching for sharks, dolphins, manta rays and sea turtles, looking at constellations and decorating cactuses with sea shells in some sort of pagan Christmas ritual. I made myself necklaces of found fish vertebrae. Asante’s painting brought it all back. His work can touch you that way. I won’t start now on the turtles . . . just come and see. Asante lives with his wife Sylvia in the mountains outside of Cottage Grove. If you are lucky, you might hear the two of them creating music somewhere in area. Wise Turtle sez: check out their websites and have a look and listen to the art and the music Asante and Sylvia create. Lane County is blessed to have them as part of the community. Asante’s cards, books, and prints are also for sale at Wise Turtle Acupuncture. You very well can find the perfect piece of art here for a loved one or for yourself. Couple that with a gift certificate for a Wise Turtle Acupuncture Sound Healing or acupuncture session for the ultimate in showing you care. Asante’s website is www.asanteriverwindarts.com. You can find out more about the original Earth-Spirit Music of Asante and Sylvia at reverbnation.com/lotusunfolding or soundcloud.com/lotus-unfolding.
